Setting Up as a DBA

When I decided to make The CMC Workshop official, I needed a way to operate under a new name without creating a whole new business. That’s when I decided on a DBA, or “Doing Business As.” It was the perfect solution for keeping things legal, organized, and manageable while giving my creative project its own identity.

Why I Chose a DBA

Since I already had a registered business, I wondered whether to start a new company or simply add this as a DBA. A DBA lets you operate under a different name while keeping your existing business structure. It requires less paperwork, fewer fees, and avoids the need to create a separate business entity. For me, it was the simplest way to make The CMC Workshop official.

What the Process Was Like

Setting up a DBA was straightforward. I registered the name with my state and confirmed it wasn’t already in use. It involved filling out one form, paying a small fee, and waiting a short time for approval. Once it was finalized, The CMC Workshop became a recognized name under my main business.

Launching a creative brand can feel overwhelming, and a DBA made it easier to manage. It allows me to grow The CMC Workshop under one umbrella while giving it its own identity.
